Following training on Monday morning, Silverbacks Technical Director Eric Wynalda talked with to discuss Wednesday's U.S. Open Cup matchup against the Chicago Fire as well as Saturday's NASL Fall Season Opener at Tampa Bay.

On the opportunity to host the Chicago Fire in the U.S. Open Cup quarterfinals:

“We’re looking forward to playing another Cup game, and we certainly hope that our run can continue, even if it’s at the expense of one of my former clubs, the Chicago Fire. I think it’s a wonderful opportunity for our players to continue to show the quality inside our organization. We want to keep showing that the MLS level is not beyond our reach by any means.”

On overcoming adversity in Colorado and applying that to Wednesday's game:

“I think the fact that we were able to overcome that adversity and finish off the game in Colorado is a testament to the great work ethic and communication that we have within our team. We expect that to continue on Wednesday. It may have taken awhile, but we really have a solid direction and a great understanding of one another. We’re very confident with the team that we have, and with who is available. Suspensions happen just like injuries do, and you have to adjust.”

On getting back to league play this Saturday in Tampa Bay:

“We’re excited to get back into the swing of things in Tampa. We felt like we were starting to find our form near the end of the NASL Spring Season, and I think our recent results against these MLS clubs are an indication of that. We hope to continue that form in Tampa, and hopefully we start getting points of out of these types of games that we unfortunately didn’t take anything from in the spring. We have to shuffle our lineup around against Chicago because of some suspensions. Some may see that as a negative, but I look at it the other way because we’re going to have some guys that will be extra fresh against the Rowdies.”

On the Rowdies as an opponent:

“I’ve said this before about the Cosmos – the only thing better than playing for them is beating them. To me, it’s the opposite for the Rowdies - the only thing better than beating them is playing for them. They are a staple organization in this country’s soccer culture, and we love playing against them. We have had some recent success playing down there, and we hope that continues. On a side note, I cannot wait to see my old friend, Rodney Marsh, who is one of the true legends of soccer in the U.S. I hope he can make it to the game.”
