Silverbacks Release Statement on Atlanta Ultras
The Atlanta Silverbacks have placed sanctions upon the Atlanta Ultras supporters group for the first three home games of this season. The club issued a statement Thursday on the group’s sanctions.
“Earlier this week, the Atlanta Silverbacks reminded the Atlanta Ultras supporters group, in writing, that there will be sanctions placed upon their group for the first three home games of the 2014 season. The three-game sanction was handed down by the club following several incidents involving fan misconduct, most recently the events that occurred at NASL Soccer Bowl 2013 at Atlanta Silverbacks Park last November. Silverbacks President & General Manager Andy Smith verbally informed Ultras leadership about the sanction within 48 hours of the Soccer Bowl’s conclusion.
We regret that this action had to be taken, but the club will not tolerate behavior of this kind, and we trust that the Ultras will respect this sanction. We look forward to the Ultras’ return later this spring and hope that they will support the club in a passionate, yet appropriate way moving forward.
Although the league was not involved in the sanctions, it fully supports the club’s decision and appreciates the actions it is taking to ensure that every NASL match is an enjoyable experience for the fans.”
