Atlanta, GA (May 4th, 2018) – The Atlanta Silverbacks Football Club has re-signed midfielder Abraham Lansana for the upcoming NPSL season. Lansana returns for his third year with the ‘Backs as the anchor of the defensive midfield.
Head coach Roberto Neves has worked to establish his system in the months leading up to this NPSL season. He said there is a certain characteristic, among many, he prefers in his players. “I like players that work hard,” he noted. “And Lasso works harder than anyone.” Neves also mentioned that Lansana is a “safe and experienced player in the defensive midfield.”
“I hope to help elevate his game even more.”
General manager Phoday Dolleh has a close relationship with Lansana, as he does with many returning from the 2017 roster he coached. He was complimentary of the holding midfielder’s role in Atlanta’s scheme. “Since arriving in Atlanta from Sweden, he has been our Patrick Viera, the backbone of our midfield.” Given his experience and talent, it is understandable that Dolleh does not expect to keep Lansana on the Silverbacks roster much longer. “I am not sure how much longer he will be with us, but we are excited to have him back in 2018.”
Abraham is a 23-year-old defensive midfielder from Monrovia, Liberia. He played three season for the Monrovia Club Breweries of the Liberian Premier League from 2010 to 2012 before his move to Sweden. Lansana made 66 appearances for Härnösands FF of Division 2 Norrland from 2013 to 2015. In 2016, he joined the NPSL Silverbacks and helped lift them to the NPSL South Atlantic Conference title that year. He has become a staple of the tough defenses Atlanta brings to the pitch every year.
Lansana is excited to return to the ‘Backs for a third season. “I’m happy to return to this club this season.” It has been an adjustment for veteran players in Atlanta, playing for their third coach in three years. But Abraham said that the preparation for the NPSL season has been trending in the right direction. “The preseason has been great, as well as learning from Coach Neves.” Knowing the grind of the NPSL regular season and postseason, Lansana thinks this squad is up to the task. “We feel prepared for the season, given the attitude and development of the team so far.”
