ATLANTA- The Atlanta Silverbacks are champions! The city’s only football club is celebrating their continuing winning season with an NPSL South Atlantic Conference Championship title!
The Silverbacks defeated Tobacco Road FC 2-1 in overtime this past Saturday at Silverbacks Park. Atlanta’s Mitch Garcia was named man of the match as he scored the game-tying goal in the 88th minute.
Silverbacks’ fans were in for an exciting game. The Silverbacks began the game strong, attacking in the early minutes and making it into Tobacco Road’s territory in many occasions. Atlanta was able to tie the game 1-1 a minute left into extra time of regulation with a goal scored by Mitch Garcia.
With a tied game at the end of regulation, the Silverbacks claimed their title of NPSL South Atlantic Conference Champions in overtime, when Avery Shepard scored the winning goal to end the game at 2-1. Shepard’s goal in this championship title game marks an extraordinary achievement, having three game winning or tying goals this season.
With a NPSL South Atlantic Conference Championship title, the Silverbacks will be traveling to Miami this weekend for another win. The team will play Miami United FC on Saturday, July 16 at Milander Stadium for the NPSL South Region Championship.
