Atlanta, GA (May 15th, 2018) – The Atlanta Silverbacks Football Club continues its 2018 NPSL campaign Saturday night at 7:00 PM as they host Inter Nashville FC at Silverbacks Park.
Inter Nashville FC
The defending NPSL champions had a well-chronicled run through the conference playoffs that extended to a deep national playoff run. After defeating their Tennessee rivals Chattanooga FC and Emerald Force SC, Inter downed the previously undefeated New Orleans Jesters on their home turf to clinch the Southeast Conference title. From there, they defeated Miami Fusion FC in South Beach to reach the South Region Final. They were bested 1-0 by Midland-Odessa FC, who went on to lose 5-0 to Elm City Express in the NPSL National Championship match. Such an impressive run set expectations high for the 2018 season.
The squad from the Music City opened the season with a win over Greenville FC in their inaugural league match. Inter Nashville proceeded to drop back to back matches, falling to Georgia Revolution FC and New Orleans Jesters at home. Since that skid, they have earned two wins in a row over in-state rival Emerald Force SC. Inter comes into this showdown in Atlanta with a record of 3-0-2 (9 points, 1.80 PPG) and second in the league table.
The Inter Nashville attack has spread the ball around to many players, as there have been seven different goal scorers in 2018. The one that stands out is Ivan Sakou. He leads the squad with four goals on the season, including two in Inter’s win over Emerald Force SC last Saturday.
The back line for Inter Nashville has endured its share of struggles to start this season. Nashville has allowed eleven goals through its five matches. Their 2.20 goals allowed per game is second highest in the conference, trailing only last-place Emerald Force SC (2.88). After a slow start, Atlanta’s offense has produced nine goals in their last three matches. They will look to keep the attack rolling Saturday against a vulnerable defense.
Player to watch: Nyambi Jabang
While the Inter Nashville defense is still finding its form, you can bet on them having threats like ‘Keka’ Kamara and Joao Johanning Mora covered. When an experienced team takes away your top threats, other players have to step up. Forward Nyambi Jabang has one highlight goal on the season, but has been pivotal in the success of the offense. Look for Nyambi to get a few more chances with all the focus on his teammates up front.
There are a few local hotspots in northeast Atlanta to dine before Saturday night’s match.
