Atlanta, GA ( July 11th, 2018 ) – The Atlanta Silverbacks Football Club will host Asheville City SC Thursday in one of two NPSL Southeast Conference semifinals. Kickoff will be at 7:30 PM at Blessed Trinity Catholic High School in Roswell, GA. The winner will play the winner of Chattanooga FC and Georgia Revolution in the NPSL Southeast Conference Final on Saturday.

Asheville City SC

The Blues of Asheville City had to battle on Decision Day to get a road win in New Orleans. Just three days later, they were in a similar situation against the defending conference champions. Yet again, Asheville City responded and earned a 3-1 victory in the quarterfinals against Inter Nashville FC and a trip to Atlanta Thursday.

Despite an inconsistent season, the Blues have passed all their tests in the most crucial moments. They will look to continue that run to the NPSL Southeast Conference Final.

Thursday’s Match

Despite the up-and-down nature of their season, one of Asheville City’s high points was sweeping Atlanta in the span of a week back in May. The Silverbacks only mustered one goal in those two matches, but it was an Aaron Walker penalty kick outside the run of play.

After their last matchup, Asheville City finished the regular season with 3 wins, 0 draws, and 6 losses while Atlanta finished the rest of the year with 6 wins, 3 draws, and 2 losses. Since failing to score from the run of play in 180 minutes against the Blues, Atlanta’s offense has begun to click. The Silverbacks offense going up against a suddenly resurgent Asheville City back line, anchored by goalkeeper Parker Siegfried, will prove pivotal in Thursday’s matchup.

For the second consecutive year, these two teams square off in the NPSL Southeast Conference playoffs. In 2017, Atlanta ousted Asheville City 1-0 in the quarterfinal round at Silverbacks Park en route to a semifinal matchup with the Jesters in New Orleans. This budding rivalry will write another fierce chapter Thursday with a spot in the final on the line.
